The Community Civility Consortium
To create a global educational community, one must examine what is missing or lacking currently. Global Educational Community has partnered with the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Indianapolis to apply for local grants with the initial theme of “ Think Globally, Act Locally.” The IMA is a predominantly African-American, not-for-profit organization of over 100 ministers and spiritual leaders in the local community who are extremely concerned about the current status of youth education, youth violence, and youth deaths.
Through this partnership, the Community Civility Consortium (CCC), which is composed of local civic leaders, educators, finance partners, alternative educators, and “dreamers” has grown. This consortium is asking: “What is civility? How do we measure it? How did we lose it? Why is this important globally? Where and how do we develop it? What is this process and what do we want as our end results? What type of schools should be established to focus on civility ? And how can civility be expanded across Indianapolis, the United States, and the globe?
This diverse and large group of community members recognized that schools are the ideal place to begin to integrate civility into everyone’s life. Using a holistic global process that helps students to thrive in an interconnected world creates schools where students pursue authentic project connected to the students’ interest and local community. With AI rapidly changing the learning environment, youth need to understand how to use AI in a positive and ethical way to advance themselves and not to cripple their learning process.
The consortium is working on a 20-year, longitudinal study that includes changes in curriculum, methodologies, and the traditional school structure, including the building design and size, location. This new type of school will look at brain development starting at birth, culturally, authentic learner-led projects and performance assessments, current barriers, prevalent violence, access to transportation, spirituality, collaboration, nutrition, and social issues.
The Community Civility Coalition is working to translate ideas into reality by rethinking, retraining, reteaching, and retrieving youth’s curiosity and quest for learning to help them reach their fullest potential. The Global Educational Community model and experience working with schools makes it a perfect partner in achieving the CCC’s goals and vision.
